Kobori Enshu Ryu Tea Ceremony Experience Session, July 14th at Shorai-an, Chigasaki - Thin Tea Ceremony Edition
We held a Kobori Enshu Ryu tea ceremony experience event at Shorai-an. We welcomed guests to sessions: one which the guests experienced the school's manner of thick tea, and one which the guests tried making bubbled cold thin tea.
The thin tea session was held in the Shoin room. The guests entered the room, then watched the water tea method demonstration. After that, the each guest used the tea whisk to make bubbled matcha with cold water.
The water tea method is performed during the summer in the Kobori Enshu Ryu. Instead of using a Furo, prepare water and ice in a Mizusashi and mix matcha with cold water. If using a glass or flat Mizusashi, looks more refreshing and feels cold breeze.
The Shoin setting was based on the theme of wanderlust (travel, the creation of new culture), and the tools were arranged in a Mitate style.
The hanging scroll on the alcove was "Kingfisher and Waterfall, by Suga Gendo." The vase was a Spanish square style, and the flowers were Turkish bellflowers and others.
The glass Mizusashi was made from processed glass waste which was provided by Ikeda Glass Co., Ltd. The tea bowl was a Western-style bowl, the Chaki was a spice holder, the lid rest was a sake cup, and the Mizutsugi was a teapot.
The water was sake brewing water from Fushimi, and the beautiful, clear ice was provided by Ishidaya.
We have prepared, sweets for Oike Senbei (Kameya Yoshinaga, Kyoto) and Misho (Manmando Michinori, Nara), and the matcha was Suzukumo (Marukyu Koyamaen, Kyoto).
Thank you very much for coming despite the poor conditions.
