Kobor Enshu Ryu Tea Ceremony Experience Session, July 14th at Shorai-an, Chigasaki - Thick Tea Ceremony Edition
In mid-July, when the rainy season was about to end, we held a Kobori Enshu Ryu Tea Ceremony Experience Session at Shorai-an. We welcomed guests for two sessions: a session which guests experienced thick tea in the Kobori Enshu Ryu's manners, and a session which guests experianced thin tea with cold water.
The thick tea session began with listening to the sound of a gong at the Yoritsuki. The guests entered the inner garden and purified our hands and mouths at the Tsukubai. Then, the guests entered the tea room through the Nijiriguchi with folding fans in hand. We taught the etiquette of the Kobori Enshu Ryu, including how to greet, how to eat sweets, how to use the Dashibukusa, and how to wipe the tea bowl after drinking tea. After the final greeting, the guests out tea room from the Nijiriguchi and arrived at the outer garden, and the experience came to an end.
The tea room setting was inspired by the summer of Lake Biwa, the hometown of Kobori Enshu.
The hanging scroll on the alcove is "A letter written by Kobori Enshu, with instruction of throwing away after reading, written by Kobori Sotsu." This letter contains the secrets of the tea ceremony that Enshu passed on to his disciples. It is a wonderful letter that will never fade with the passage of time. The flowers are Enshu Mukuge, pure white Mukuge. The incense container is a boat.
We have prepared, sweets for Anfu Sankira (Confectionery Shop Oguchiya at Aichi) and Matcha for Horai (Matsuoen at Nagoya).
Thank you very much for visiting despite the unstable weather.
