Today is "Chrysanthemum Festival." For sweets, prepared "Kisewata" (Kasho Kikuta at Aoyama).
This festival was introduced from China during Heian period (8-12 century). Chrysanthemum was believed to ward off evil sprits and bring longevity from its scent and elegant flowers. On this day, there was a custom to drink "kiku sake," and cleanse body with cotton which soaked in the morning dew of chrysanthemums.
